MIKE SOVIET

Mike Soviet was born Michael Shepherd Hardy in Kitimat, British Columbia.  The son of an electrician/skydiver and a yoga/dance teacher grew up a band geek and media fanatic, enjoying the music of The Doors, Metallica, Primus, Donovan, Sonic Youth, Nomeansno, Gary Glitter, Gary Numan and Devo to name but a few favourites.  He lived in Prince Rupert for almost twenty years, then moved to Vancouver after briefly studying music in Nelson, BC and Sheffield, UK.  A devoted student of music, theatre and percussion, Mike fell in love with alternative and electronic music and started recording under the name “Mike Soviet” in 2004.  Mike’s vocal and writing style has been compared to the work of David Bowie, Tom Waits, Mark Mothersbaugh and Gary Numan.
