MISSY MORRIS
Hometown: Kamloops, BC Current City: Toronto, ON
Formal Training: Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from Ryerson University
Street Cred: Well, once we were in this show that was mostly wicked hip-hop troupes, and I was performing with Typecast, a new contemporary company. Needless to say, we felt a little out of place. After we performed, one of the hip hop guys approached us and said we were “the Ill-est Crew” he’d ever seen. I’d call that street cred, no?
Associated Organizations: Typecast Dance Company, Zata Omm Dance Projects
Inspirations/Style: Inspired by pretty much everything. Music is definitely at the top of the list, mostly electronic, indie/experimental music. Also independent film, modern art, the human body, fashion, photography, people’s quirks, human psychology, other dancers and choreographers. Style is mostly modern/contemporary, but currently a little rougher around the edges. It changes depending on my mood or influences at the time.
Where you at Now: Working in Toronto with Typecast Dance Company, interning for Zata Omm Dance Projects, random gigs here and there
How I got here: Moved to Toronto to attend Ryerson’s dance program four years ago, worked my butt off, got my degree, I guess now here I am.
Plans for the Future: Europe audition tour, perhaps move to Montreal for a while…hopefully lots of travelling.
You’re really excited for: Travelling and performing. Life after school in general.
Available for hire? (if yes, what area specifically): Yes – for anyone looking for any kind of physical performer – for photoshoots, film, stage performance, installation work…I am open to anything. Will pretty much pick up and move anywhere for the right gig. Also teach dance to the youngins. E-mail me! m6morris@gmail.com
