RUMPLESTILTZ
Rumplestiltz was born in 1981 and raised in downtown Toronto. He grew up in a very musical household. Both of his parents were professional classical musicians, and Rumple learned to play the cello from a very young age. By junior high-school he had developed an ear for Hip-hop, and other urban genres of music. He soon realized that by using his classical music training, and theory/composition background, he was able to compose hip-hop instrumentals and beats using his father's recording equipment… By using his cello as a tool to create samples - he was able to create new original songs all on his own. He soon bought an MPC and began making beats for himself, and the people around him, to rap on.
His first appearance on any hip-hop record, as a rapper, was in 2000; the first release of a compilation album by an underground hip-hop collective called "The Furious Few". Other notable Mc's on that record were Chuggo (than of the Thighmastas) with his "I Wish I was a Woman's Bicycle Seat" track, Dynamo of Hobo Banditos, and Roch-D - producer and Bidwhist Records CEO. After The Furious Few - Rumple founded a new rap group called "The Red Army" - a plan he and rapper Black had tried to execute - with little success in years past. When the idea of "Red Army" was proposed to producer Dynamo of the Furious Few the idea was reborn with the new 3rd member. Red Army went on to record 2 more albums including another Furious Few record - which was played on the radio at Circle Research and CIUT.
Red Army disbanded when each member of the group decided to pursue their own goals and projects as well as work on solo albums. Black of Red Army has recently released his own solo studio album entitled "Master Plan B" - produced by Dynamo as well as others. Dynamo went on to form a group called the "Hobo Bantitos" as well as produce for some of the top names in the hip-hop industry across both Canada and America. Rumplestiltz has worked with/produced for Unknown Mizery, Ko-NATION, Bah, iLLminstrel (Corrupted Nostalgia), Optometrist, Hobo Banditos, Harry The Hat, Twitchy Tantrum, Sleepy Pockets, Lefspec, Keen1/Subverse/Swirve Music, Mr. Merak, and Chuggo. Rumplestiltz attended The University of Toronto and Canada's Royal Conservatory for 'Music Performance' on cello. Rumple regularly plays in orchestras and teaches cello - as well as composing movie scores - as a production team with fellow producer Dynamo. Rumplestiltz also works as a studio musician recording cello as well as performing live shows. Rumple is currently working on a Live Hip-Hop Jazz Band project featuring Toronto MC "Unknown Mizery"...
