STEVE  CARTY


   Steve Carty has been making pictures for a living since 1992. He was born in the great white north and lives in Toronto with his wife, 2 kids and 2 dogs. Daily he commutes by bike to his studio.

His images have been featured in magazines such as; Naked Eye, Antenna, Scratch, Sway, Intersection UK, Jane, InTouch Weekly, Girlfriend (US & New Zealand), YM, Maclean’s, the Source, Fashion18, Saturday Night, Pound, and Foto Pozytyw (Poland). Clients have included: Nike, CBC, Blast Radius, L’Oreal Professional, Expect Theatre, Dedicated Clothing, Code Black Entertainment, Universal Music, Smirnoff, Adidas, Reebok, Sport Chek, McClelland and Stewart, Harper Collins, Magnolia Store, Paper Denim & Cloth and Third Rail.

Carty’s images have been in numerous exhibitions including; Contact 09 “3 Generations of Urban Portraiture” featuring Carty, Jamel Shabazz and Che Kothari. Jerome Jenner Gallery, May 2009, “Tattoo Pin-Up” for Contact 08, at the Jerome Jenner Gallery, Hip-Hop Immortals, the largest exhibition of hip-hop photography in the world [London/Berlin/Paris], Kuumba Sees – Harbourfront Centre, Toronto, Naked in the House I, and Positives (solo show, Bravo! CityTv)

This year for Contact 2010, “The Medium is the Message” is the theme and Steve Carty has been selected as a featured artist along side the Hermann & Audrey family. Carty’s theme is “Lightworkers” Painters with Light, a slow shutter technique he has been working on for the past 5 years.

Carty currently works in Toronto, New York and Vancouver and has released his first book, “Positives” (spring 2009). He was selected to be published in Carte Blanche, the first book of Canadian Contemporary Photographers, available everywhere.
